For Hip Hop History Piskor is the only game in town

I love so much about this series, the retro artwork, the forgotten histories. It's exciting to read about a time when kids on street corner or a gymnasium or a college dorm could create music that would change the world. Too bad Ed's writing is where this series starts to unravel into incoherency. He jumps around too much and he insists on using cacography- deliberate misspellings to reflect the character speech -borders on racist. It's obvious from his love of the subject matter that Ed IS NOT RACIST! But honestly his depiction of Russel Simmons seems downright disrespectful. I've seen many interviews with him and he is always intelligent and eloquent. Why he is portrayed here as nearly incoherent is a real mystery to me and makes me almost want to give up the series. But Ed has a monopoly on rap history comics. I love this book Ed, but just dial it down on your depictions of Ebonics please!
